Sheridan School Election: Let’s Get Informed!
Hey there, Sheridan community! We’re excited to share important information about the upcoming school election! Here’s what you need to know:
What’s on the Ballot?
For Sheridan Voters: You’ll find a ballot that includes an election for a general fund mill levy. The trustee election has been cancelled because there were two positions up for election and only two candidates filed. So, they’re elected by acclamation—no need for a vote!
For Alder Voters: There’s no ballot this time! The election is cancelled since there was one trustee position available and only one candidate filed. This means they’re also elected by acclamation.
Did You Know?
The Sheridan School District is actually two districts. We have a K-8 elementary district that includes Sheridan and surrounding areas, and a 9-12 high school district that includes both the Sheridan elementary district and the Alder elementary district.
There are currently 236 students enrolled in Sheridan Schools, with 181 in elementary grades.
From 2021 to 2025, our elementary enrollment has grown by 54%, while our general fund budget has grown by only 35%.
We have a dedicated team of 46 full and part-time employees (not counting substitutes and coaches) working hard for our students.
While this levy supports the general fund, your taxes help support various funds, including transportation, tuition, adult education, and building reserves. Each fund has its specific purpose, and we’re committed to being responsible with your tax dollars.
Elementary General Fund Levy Election Information
What’s the ask? The Board is requesting your support to approve a levy of $76,105.78, which is about 12.39 mills.
Why is this important? The funds will support the current educational programs for our K-8 students, including an early literacy program for our four-year-olds. We want to give our kids the best start possible.
Your voice matters! The Board carefully considers levy issues before asking for your support. We invite you to attend our board meetings, stay informed, and share your thoughts.
How Much Will the General Fund Levy Cost?
If you approve the additional 12.39 mills, it will cost around $50.18 per year for a house valued at $300,000, and about $100.36 per year for a house valued at $600,000.
Got questions? We know funding for public education can be tricky! Feel free to reach out to Rodney Stout (rodney.stout@sheridan.k12.mt.us) or Becky Larsen (becky.larsen@sheridan.k12.mt.us) for more information.
Thanks for being involved in our school community and returning your ballots to the Madison County Clerk and Recorder by May 6, 2025! Together, we can make a difference for our students.
The regular school election will be held by mail ballot only on Tuesday, May 6, 2025. If you are registered to vote, you will receive your mail ballot from the Madison County Clerk and Recorder and Election office.
The Board of Trustees will ask for an Elementary General Fund Mill Levy of $76,557.55 to support general operating costs of the District. To see more detail about the District's projected budget, please click here. Passage of this proposal will increase the taxes on a home with a market value of $100,000 by approximately $16.82, on a home with a market value of $300,000 by approximately $50.46, and on a home with a market value of $600,000 by approximately $100.93.
The trustee elections for the Alder trustee position (high school district) and two Sheridan trustee positions (elementary district) are cancelled because the number of candidates is equal to or less than the number of positions to be elected.
